Final product
This final product for my music video went through several alterations before I decided I was satisfied with the end result. Figuring out where the stock footage would be placed in the edit was fairly simple as I had planned this out during the early stages of the course when editing the projection. I edited it so that it matched the music and beat of the song, I then decided which sections of the footage that I captured for the projection would be kept in the music video, as I intended to make location changes in my plan. Once the projection footage was complete I began filming the sequence with my artist in front of the projection. I originally wanted to film in a studio but ended up having to compromise with a classroom that had both a projector and whiteboard in it . I filmed the main artist after college times so that we could avoid any interruptions during the shoot, I set up my camera and tripod and played the projection continuously until we had gone through the full song once over. To improve the quality of the lip syncing I played the song over the top whilst we filmed, this actually improved his performance because it made his movement a bit more natural and believable. After this I highlighted verses from the song that I wanted to shoot in another setting and discussed it with my main artist just to see if he had any other ideas or suggestions that he wanted me to consider. One of his suggestions was to use the green room in the media department so that I could use the lighting to demonstrate experimentation with three point lighting on my subject. Another location that he suggested was in the music department, what made this location so effective was that I could show my main artist singing in a recording studio, which is an example of verisimilitude. Almost immediately after I had filmed all of the insert shots, I uploaded the clips to Adobe Premiere Pro. When I began editing I had a good idea of what effects and techniques I wanted to use as I only had very basic knowledge on Premiere Pro. Because of this I decided that I would use simple techniques to piece the clips together because I didn't want to try anything that I was unsure about at this stage. I stuck to what I knew to try and complete the video with out having to worry about the continuity of my editing. Overall, I am pleased with the final outcome, I think that it is a very creative music video that combines a balance of conventional and unconventional methods, for instance the conventions of form are followed through out whereas, the genre is challenged. I did this to show my development through the course, this decision to go against the conventions of R&B demonstrates how my confidence has grown and how I felt prepared to make my own decisions as a result of the information I had gained over the two years on the course. The stock footage was sourced from YouTube and edited into the video. An example of the footage I gathered can be seen in the intro which begins with the shot of the earth.
